Ohio Allows Businesses To Pay Taxes With Bitcoin

See Article Here

Ohio has launched a web site called, OhioCrypto.com, which will allow businesses to pay their business taxes by Bitcoin. When I initially read the article the only thing I said to myself is this is a social engineering scheme waiting to happen. All businesses that are registered in the State of Ohio will now be getting an email suggesting that they pay their taxes early using their Bitcoin wallet. I can see the “click here” button, which redirect them to a site that will infect their systems with ransomware and now have a reason to go ahead and find out what the heck is a Bitcoin wallet. Another threat is someone just setting up a malicious site that looks just like the OhioCrypto site and just collect bitcoin payments. I know I sound like a skeptic, but all I see is more confusion and more ways to prey on the lack of sophistication of SMB’s with this new way to pay.

BitPay is the third party processor for the site and holds the responsibility for developing the appropriate cyber security safeguards for the businesses that use the service. However, we all know if anything goes awry, it’s the State of Ohio who will take the hit!
